De Joker is een fictieve superschurk uit de strips van DC Comics, en een vaste vijand van Batman. Hij wordt gezien als Batmans grootste tegenstander. Hij werd bedacht door Bill Finger en Bob Kane, in samenwerking met Jerry Robinson.

The Joker is a fictional supervillain who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Jerry Robinson, Bill Finger, and Bob Kane, and first appeared in Batman #1 (April 25, 1940). Credit for the character's creation is disputed; Kane and Robinson claimed responsibility for the Joker's design, while acknowledging Finger's writing contribution. Although the Joker was planned to be killed off during his initial appearance, he was spared by editorial intervention, allowing the character to endure as the archenemy of the superhero Batman.

Le personnage a été créé par Jerry Robinson, Bill Finger et Bob Kane, et est apparu pour la première fois dans Batman #1, au printemps 1940. Le créateur du personnage est contesté, Kane et Robinson ayant à la fois revendiqué la conception du Joker mais reconnu l'écriture du personnage de la main de Finger. Destiné à être tué lors de sa comparution initiale, le Joker a été épargné par l'intervention éditoriale, ce qui permet au personnage de devenir le pire ennemi du super-héros Batman.
