De Smurfen (Frans: Les Schtroumpfs) zijn stripfiguren bedacht door Peyo en mee vormgegeven door Yvan Delporte. Ze werden ontworpen als nevenpersonages in de reeks Johan en Pirrewiet en kregen in 1959 een eigen stripreeks. Later dienden de stripfiguren ook als inspiratie voor een tekenfilmreeks en een liveactionfilm. Tevens werd er heel wat muziek en merchandising uitgebracht onder naam van de Smurfen.
The Smurfs is a Belgian comic and television franchise centered on a fictional colony of small blue creatures who live in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest. The Smurfs was first created and introduced as a series of comic characters by the Belgian comics artist Peyo (pen name of Pierre Culliford) in 1958, where they were known as Les Schtroumpfs. There are more than one hundred Smurf characters, and their names are based on adjectives that emphasize their characteristics, such as "Jokey Smurf", who likes to play practical jokes on his fellow smurfs. "Smurfette" was the first female Smurf to be introduced in the series. The Smurfs wear Phrygian caps, which came to represent freedom during the modern era.
Les Schtroumpfs est une série de bande dessinée belge créée par Peyo en 1958 racontant l'histoire d'un peuple imaginaire de petites créatures bleues logeant dans un village champignon au milieu d'une vaste forêt. Les seize premiers albums ont été créés par l'auteur original. Depuis sa mort, le 24 décembre 1992, son fils Thierry Culliford participe à la création des nouveaux albums.
